for the children of war there will be no more distinction of race or religion, for we will all be made black by the ash and mud, our sweat stinging our vision blinded by the blood of our brothers, sealing our eyelids shut. and we will pray, palms pressed toward the sky, genuflecting before the golden arches, the ambience of a glow, the inflation of a globalised mini-mart and us, pleading for salvation to the nearest source of aid. for when bodies are just bodies, and life recounted in statistics and deathtolls, we are no longer divine. - may 2005 |
